The GC
I won't tell you not to see The Golden Compass. You're going to go see it anyway, and that's as it should be.
Just... Remember that the book was good. The book was good, right? Let's focus on the book.
Ugh.

I have not seen it yet, but your thoughts are echoing all the others I've heard and making me very sad...
Okay, come on, Nate-ums: it wasn't THAT bad. It was more true to its source material than, say, Harry Potter ever was and Nicole Kidman is bang-a-licious as Mrs. Coulter (and perfect for the role, I think). And the bear fight was badass!
That aside, I also had many problems with it. Mostly that it did little more than skim the surface of the book's story/characters in its efforts to keep out most of the "more offensive" religious-related suggestions. The action plot was dead on, but I can't help but feel that the movie missed what the story is *really* about.
And how do we think they're going to resolve the opening of the next movie? That'll be one hell of an awkward transition (not to mention more than a little sad)...
Loathed. it.
As you well know.
Although, truly, the bear fight was awesome.
"IS THAT AL-?"
*JAW FLIES AT SCREEN!"
Bad. Ass.
Come visit Boston. Skybus exists, you have NO EXCUSE.
I mentioned this to Anthony too, but I just was at an internship where they were doing the play version of "His Dark Materials" with a bunch of kids. It was a weird stage adaptation, and now I need to see the movie to see the story in all three media (hoorah conjugation).
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Haha, thanks for the Sweeney comment. it helped me feel a little less I am taking crazy pills. Maybe many liberal arts do make that argument, but I haven't heard anyone else make it about Sweeney! I feel crazy ....
