Well, you know
I was thinking to myself just now: "Kari and I haven't done anything with anyone in several days. We should have someone over!"
And then I remembered, of course.
This week has, in general, gone pretty well. Forgot my wallet this morning, which never really presented itself as a difficulty today. Spent some time with the octagenarians at Heather Hill as part of community work, and I continue to be impressed with the kids' ability to reach out and act appropriately and kindly to these seniors with whom few things seem to register. The kids can't behave in the vans on the way there and back, of course, but I take what I can get.
I received the following note from two of my students yesterday afternoon, on a lined piece of notebook paper folded in eighths and carefully labeled "SECRET" and "confidential only for [the students' names] & Nate only:"
"Dear Nate,
Made you this picture to show my artistic ability. It's a volcanoe! if you didn't know. Don't tell anyone this is a bribe so put us in Fiction Writing. Or Else watch your back!
From, [the students in question]"
The reverse of the note depicts an erupting volcano and the words "The sun will shine.... if you put us in your class otherwise pain & torture in your future..."
The note also has "he he he" scrawled in the bottommost corner.
Needless to say, I think I am going to have to run another fiction workshop in the next slot.
