Oh, I'm sorry, wrong code.

I went out to see that new Tom Hanks movie, you know, the one where's he's not dating Meg Ryan? I don't know what all the fuss is about.

And I mean that in the opposite way from which it might be taken. Rotten Tomatoes has The DaVinci Code at an embarrassing 22%, worth noting if only because it's worse than the score of "Valiant," one of the most detestable children's films of the past five years.

To all the movie reviewers, I ask-- why y'all be hating?

Honestly, I thought that although the script was occasionally stilted (especially at the beginning, you get used to it), for the most part the story unfolded exactly as I imagined a movie version of the book would. So if you found it boring or ridiculous or anything like that, there's a part of me that thinks that sin doesn't fall upon the shoulders of Ron Howard (and certainly not Hans Zimmer, who consistently pleases me with his delightful scores-- I'm looking forward to Pirates 2).

Well, I suppose I'll have intelligent discussions about the film with people once they've seen it. Maybe they'll be able to point out stuff that I missed, or that I ignored. I know I have a tendency to ignore bad aspects of a film I've enjoyed (who was that guy who was in War of the Worlds, by the way?).

All right-- off to Stratford for a few days, to get my fill of the Bard (and write this damned paper!). I wish you all luck!

I'm the devil on your filmic shoulder, Natums. I'm sure that once I've seen it, I'll be able to unjustly criticize it till the cows come home. Will keep you posted.

For whatever it's worth, Silas strikes me as the most ineffective assassin of all time. He's loud, he can't drive, has anger problems AND is allergic to the Sun, for feck's sake. He's a veritable anti-Terminator.

Consider the New Yorker review of the work, as it says things I'll never be smart enough to.

Love,
