Ballsalicious

I like my infuriation with the current administration to be well-informed and continously stoked.

It occurs to me that just because myself and some of my life-minded associates on the Kenyon-Exeter program peruse several left-wing blogs on a regular basis, many of you might not do the same.

It's very possible, then, that some of you have heard little to nothing about Stephen Colbert's scathing, no-holds-barred comedy attack on the administration a few days ago at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, an event at which Stephen was the keynote speaker.

You may not know about this, because the mainstream media has gone miles out of its way to avoid saying anything about the speech. It's that incendiary. Do you guys remember when Jon Stewart went onto Crossfire and tore the pundits to shreds? Do you remember "stop stop stop stop hurting America?" Well, this is Stephen Colbert's equivalent.

People are saying the speech "bombed." Well, the people Mr. Colbert was talking to, the president and the press, certainly seemed cowed by it. Because he was torching them. They went down in flames. Jonathan Swift would have been proud. This was "A Moderate Proposal" material, guys.

Enough hyperbole, let the speech speak for itself. I've had a hard time finding the entire clip unedited, but a number of sites divide it up into pieces and most of them have the whole thing.

The fact that the man stood not ten feet from the president and said this kind of stuff means that Colbert can only be summed up in one word, as Jon Stewart so eloquently puts it: "ballsalicious." Or maybe in two: "Holy shit."

That's fair enough-- I'd agree with that statement. It's a big difference that Colbert went up there swimming in irony, while Jon just came out an said what he meant, plainly.

In conclusion, Stewart > Colbert.

But truly Stephen does deserve some props.
