Trying to shake off February

Another day spent relatively inactive. I'm really wasting my life, here, but I'd prefer not to dwell.

I introduced Terrell to Kingdom Hearts this afternoon, after watching a string of interviews with the voice actors for its sequel. I am a little sad that Mena Suvari is taking over Mandy Moore's job as the voice of Aerith, but more than happy to discover that Lance Bass has been kicked from the role of Sephiroth-- also pleased to discover that the two guys playing Reno and Rude in Advent Children are Quinton Flynn (voice of Raiden from MGS2) and Crispin Freeman (Zelgadis from Slayers-- the good one). Quinton was also the voice of Jonny Quest in the 90s series, which is a plus in my book. Oh, and returning to Kingdom Hearts, I thank the stars above that the rumors of Hilary Duff playing Namine are untrue.

This is what I do with my days. Link to the IMDb profiles of voice actors. It would be a little lamer if I didn't secretly aspire to someday be among their company.

Oh yeah-- Christopher 'Saruman' Lee is gonna be the voice of DiZ, which I think will be tres hot. Of course, a lot of this will mean a lot of nothing to most people. Did anyone besides me even play Chain of Memories? Ah well, everyone likes Christopher Lee, and even if I am "blogging into the void" I will look back fondly on this entry and think "well, at least I was a firm proponent of Wonka's dad."

If only it was Walken.

For some reason, my iTunes (put on shuffle) has returned to "A Pirate I Was Meant to Be," the seminal musical number from The Curse of Monkey Island, thrice in the last two days. If nobody's heard this particular piece of music (or played this particular game) I highly encourage you all to do so.

I discovered a new pastime today-- listening to techno music (or perhaps playing Frequency) while listening to radio interviews or NPR news stories on the internet. I listened to a forty-minute interview with evolution-proponent Richard Dawkins (who wins my vote for sticking it to God all over the place) whilst recreating the phat beats of The Crystal Method and BT, and it was generally delightful experience.

The BBC had an article not long ago (lemme try and find it... ah, here it is) about the total aimless mush that is the democratic party, and what's interesting to me is the lack of ability to communicate a message. We live in a world where we're so inundated with media that we can easily pick which bits of information we choose to process, and while I love to watch clips from The Daily Show on onegoodmove, not everybody in the country is tuned into the more acute analytical minds of our culture (you know, like Jon Stewart and his bunch). Basically, those in power can say whatever they want and do what they like, and there's no practical way for opposition to get its voice to the populace.

Half the people wouldn't care, anyway. I really think we might be on the road to an Orwellian dystopia, and I think that if I'm ever lucky enough to meet a brilliant girl who would be silly enough to want kids with me I'm not going to want to do it with Big Brother looking over my shoulder. What kind of options do we have, at this point?

Odd coincidence. Our lovable roommate Chris Carr began Kindom Hearts just a few days ago and I stopped in to watch him today whenever I needed a break from this infernal paper-writing. Small world.

I've always found the Orwellian distopia uncompelling. If there's a distopia we're heading for, it's brave new world all the way. Everyone too enthralled in fleeting sensory enjoyment to be bothered with anything more permanent or complex.

we're practically there already.

big brother is barely necessary. just the t.v.

Wait, let me rephrase that:

Moonbase.
